SOLARA

Last 22-23 February, more than 30 artists exhibited their works at the Xavier Hall of Ateneo de Naga University.  SOLARA or South Luzon Artists Assembly is a venue for you aspiring artists to display their craft and be inspired by other artists.

( PHOTO: JULMAR PANTE.)
The main area of Xavier hall was enclosed to give way to the exhibit. There were also intermission numbers coming from a local dance group, as you can see in the picture. (hehehe)

That TLR camera has no film. I'm just posing for the DSLR in front of me.

Sir Dennis Gonzaga of the Center for Arts and Culture is the chief organizer of the event.

My exhibit pieces. They are the original work and I have them framed. It's hard letting go of the original work but I'm wishing someone would take care of them already.

Bertong Bulaan

Sandi Ghannam wrote a very inspiring children story "Sisidlan" that will be published by Ateneo Center for Arts and Culture this month. Here's my rendition of one of the major characters in her magical and colorful story.   Sisidlan is her entry to the Romeo Forbes Children's Story Writing Competition sponsored by Canvas.

Happily Ever After Haikus

Tail
Boys must act like men.
When pleasing the bride’s booty,
must feed the pussy.

Beans
Eggs were stolen,
Giant’s cock’s suddenly blue,
missing the old hen.

Dream
Ever after wed
I bet she’s good in bed, but
oh, she snores a lot.

Woman in the struggle

Tilad Literary Folio: KAMOOT (Call for Submission february)

Okay, sorry for not mentioning the deadline in the poster. It's on February 10, 2013. We hope to release this folio on the 15th, we will not pursue with the 14th. That's too mainstream. he he he. Well, that's only my opinion. The core group of ALA will be the one deciding. I am not sure whether the letter above is real or a bogus note written by the vice chairman of ALA Rea Robles. We accept poems, short stories, essays and artworks about the topic love. Erotic entries are also allowed. You can write in English, Filipino or Bikol and its variations. Submit them all to kaabtan@gmail.com.

Batman and Robin

This is a fresh start for the year. I bought a new watercolor pencil set. Derwent is better than Faber Castell because it mixes well with water. On the other hand, Faber Castell eraser is ergonomic, it fits my fingers well.  My wish for this year is to have an A3 size scanner for my works.
So here's one of my early works, my nephews Zoe and Ethan as Batman (pronounced by Zoe as Bah-man) and Robin. I love the sweetness of this dynamic duo. I hope they stay the same when they grow up.

My Shinigami

I'm a big Deathnote fan. Before the websites imposed the combination of alphanumeric characters, my password for all my social networking accounts was "arikmai" (I am kira, just inverted). My fave characters in the series are Ryuk, Quillsh and Light. I always wanted a shinigami as a friend, the same feeling I have with the minions (of Despicable Me).

Si Piyo (Story Book for Children)

I was commissioned by Sir Rizaldy Manrique to do an illustration for his children's story "Si Piyo, an aki kan bukid Asog". I'm still in the process of completing all the spreads.

In this set I revived my old art style back in 2007. They call it the "Tim-Burtonish" style because of the eyes. They all seem to be suffering from insomnia. hehehe

Guy on the couch

The Guy on the couch is a character in the movie of Dave Chapelle titled "Halfbaked". He's just a bum who loves his sofa very much that he doesn't leave it. My friend Elmo asked me to do this drawing for an album cover art of his band Unclemullet.  The original plan was to draw it like a kindergarten would do, but I enjoyed drawing it, so here it is.

I also created a back version of the cover.
